PBIS Monthly Focus: Recess Expectations at Woodlands

This month, our PBIS focus is on helping students demonstrate The Woodlands Way during recess. Recess is an exciting and enjoyable part of the day, and by practicing positive behaviors, students help keep it safe, fun, and inclusive for everyone.
We're asking for your partnership at home in reviewing our recess rules and expectations with your child. Talking together about safe play, respectful choices, and following directions helps reinforce the same messages students receive at school.
At Woodlands, we encourage students to show Positive Actions by being kind, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and coming and going quietly. We remind them to Work Hard by following the rules and gathering their belongings before returning inside. Students also practice Staying Safe by using their "body power" and using equipment safely.
Recess reminders include important safety expectations such as sliding down one at a time and avoiding jumping off or walking near equipment in unsafe ways. Students also know to avoid restricted areas such as the shed, trees, puddles, dumpster area, field fence, and the port-a-potty.
Finally, students are reminded that rough play, tackling, and climbing on top of equipment are not allowed at any time.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to review these expectations with your child. Your support helps us continue making recess a safe, positive, and enjoyable part of the school day for all students.
